2015 | Pr • Ron HowardAmerican filmmaker and actor (born 1954) For other people named Ronald Howard, see Ronald Howard. Ronald William Howard (born March 1, 1954) is an American director, producer, screenwriter, and actor. Howard started his career as a child actor before transitioning to directing films. Over his six-decade career, Howard has received multiple accolades, including two Academy Awards, six Emmy Awards, two Golden Globe Awards, and a Grammy Award. He was awarded the National Medal of Arts in 2003 and was inducted into the Television Hall of Fame in 2013.[1][2] He has two stars on the Hollywood Walk of Fame for his contributions in film and television. Howard first came to prominence as a child actor, acting in several television series before gaining national attention for playing young Opie Taylor, the son of Sheriff Andy Taylor (played by Andy Griffith) in the sitcom The Andy Griffith Show from 1960 through 1968. During this time, he also appeared in the musical film The Music Man (1962), a critical and commercial success. Howard was cast in one of the lead roles in the influential coming-of-age film American Graffiti (1973), and became a household name for playing Richie Cunningham in the sitcom Happy Days (1974–1980).[3] H • Ron Howard (USA, 1954), formerly a famous child actor on television series, debuted as a filmmaker with Grand Theft Auto (1977), Shift (1982) and especially the romantic comedy Splash (1984). | Cocoon (1985) Gung Ho (1986) Willow (1988) Parenthood (1989) Backdraft (1991) Far and Away (1992), adapted from a theatrical play, is set at the end of the 19th century and tells the story of an Irish farmer and his landlord's daughter who migrate to America and move west. The Paper (1994) Apollo 13 (1995) is a docudrama. Ransom (1996) is a thriller that focuses on an unusual hero, the father of a kidnapped child, determined to stand up for what is right and not necessarily for his boy's life. It is also a duel of sorts between two very rational and determined minds (the criminal and the victim), between idealized forms of evil and good, both of whom have some control over the fate of the other. EDtv (1999) is a remake of the Canadian film Louis 19, King of the Airwaves (1994). How the Grinch Stole Christmas (2000) is a children's movie. A Beautiful Mind (2001) is the melodramatic biography of a Nobel prize winner. The film is too long for what it has to say, full of stereotypes and rarely engaging.
