Civil Services results declared, IISc candidate topper
NEW DELHI: Mutyalaraju Reva, who is from Indian Institute of Science in Bangalore, topped the 2006 Civil Services Examination in which eight women figure in the top 20.
Announcing the final results Monday, the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) recommended 474 candidates, including 101 women. Reva is from the backward caste community.
Anindita Mitra, an engineer, whose overall ranking was eighth, topped among women.
Out of the 474 candidates, who cleared the tests conducted in three phases, 214 are from general category, 144 OBCs, 80 Scheduled Caste and 36 from Scheduled Tribe.
In the top 20 list, 14 belong to Commerce, Humanities and Social Sciences stream while five were engineers and one a doctor. While 18 took the exams in English, the remaining two wrote in Hindi.
Three among the top 20 candidates cleared the elite exams in their first attempt while one candidate took nine attempts to get an appointment in the services.
Eighteen physically challenged people, including two from SC category and three from OBCs, were also cleared by the apex recruitment body for appointment.
About two lakh candidates appeared for the tests.
