      Masahiro Ito completed his undergraduate studies in the Department of Chemistry at Rikkyo University in Tokyo and earned his Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from the Graduate School of Science and Engineering at the Tokyo Institute of Technology in 1994. From 1994 to 1997, he worked as a postdoctoral fellow in the Department of Biochemistry at the Mount Sinai School of Medicine in New York. 1997, Professor Ito joined the Faculty of Life Sciences at Toyo University as a full-time lecturer. He has received several awards, including the 2002 International Conference on Extremophiles Young Poster Award, the 2005 Japan Society for Extremophiles Encouragement Award, and the 2011 Japan Society for the Promotion of Science Award for Outstanding Young Scientists. From 2008 to 2010, he served as a Program Officer at the Ministry of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology (MEXT). In April 2020, he became the Program Director of the Bio-Resilience Research Project, launched under the theme of "Social Implementation of Advanced Science on Extremophiles for Achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)." Toyo University selected This project as a priority research program for the fiscal year 2021.
